What Is Normal in the First Week After Facial Filler
Day-two photos after cheek, jaw or tear trough filler often look more swollen than the finished result. Softness, mild unevenness and tenderness are common early on. Panic usually comes from judging the face before swelling has settled.
If you have had dermal fillers at Beautoxology, or you are researching what recovery feels like, here is what is typical in the first week for facial filler outside the lips, and when a review is worth booking.
Why the first week is not the final result
Hyaluronic acid filler holds water as it settles. Treated areas can look fuller, firmer or slightly uneven for several days. Cheeks and jaw often settle differently from highly mobile lips. For lip-specific swelling patterns, see our guide to uneven lips in the first week after filler.
What usually feels normal
Mild swelling that peaks in the first two to three days, then eases
Tenderness or a firm feel when you press the treated area
Small bruises that fade over the week
A face that looks different in morning light versus evening light
Asymmetry that softens as fluid settles, especially after cheek or jaw work

Simple aftercare that helps
Follow the written aftercare you were given on the day
Avoid heavy exercise, alcohol and heat treatments for the period advised
Sleep with your head slightly raised if the mid face feels puffy
Do not massage or press the area unless your clinician told you to
Take clear photos in similar light each day if you want to track change, not hourly mirror checks
When to get in touch sooner
Pain, swelling or colour change that is getting worse rather than better
Blanching, mottling or severe pain in or near the treated area
Swelling that makes one side look dramatically different after several days with no improvement
Anything that feels wrong rather than simply swollen: book a review rather than waiting it out alone
Early review is better than guessing. If a previous result still looks wrong after settling, dissolving may be discussed later; do not assume more filler is the answer in week one.
Lips, tear trough and mid face settle on different clocks
Lips move constantly and often look uneven early; see lip enhancements and our first-week lip guide
Tear trough is delicate and swelling can linger; see tear trough
Cheeks, jaw and smile-line areas often need a calmer week before you judge shape
Longevity is a separate question from early swelling; see how long facial filler lasts
Botox recovery is different again. If you had muscle relaxants rather than filler, our first 48 hours after Botox guide is the better read.
