Profhilo® is an injectable hyaluronic acid treatment designed to improve skin quality rather than add volume or change facial shape. It is a high-concentration, highly pure hyaluronic acid that spreads beneath the skin to support hydration, firmness and tissue quality. Unlike traditional dermal fillers, Profhilo is not used to sculpt cheeks, lips or jawlines.

HOW IS PROFHILO USED IN COSMETIC MEDICINE?

​

Profhilo is commonly used to improve the appearance of ageing or dehydrated skin in areas such as:

• Face

• Neck

• Décolleté

• Body (including areas of crepey or lax-looking skin)

It may help with fine lines, loss of firmness, dullness and a tired-looking skin texture. If hollows, folds or contour changes are the main issue, dermal filler or another pathway may be more appropriate.

WHAT DOES THE PROCEDURE INVOLVE?

Profhilo is injected at defined points into the skin using a fine needle. On the face this is typically a small number of injection points per side so the product can distribute evenly. Treatment is relatively quick; face, neck or décolleté appointments are often around 15-30 minutes depending on the clinic and area.

RESULTS

Skin may look and feel more hydrated in the weeks after treatment, with gradual improvement in firmness and quality as remodelling continues. A standard course is two treatments spaced about four weeks apart. Maintenance sessions are often advised around every four to six months, depending on your skin and goals.

POST TREATMENT ADVICE AND AFTERCARE

It is important that you follow the advice of your practitioner carefully after treatment to help maximise results and reduce the risk of complications.

• Small raised bumps at injection points are common and usually settle within 24-48 hours as the product disperses.

• Expect possible redness, tenderness or mild bruising at injection sites.

• Avoid makeup on the treated area for 12 hours unless advised otherwise.

• Avoid alcohol, vigorous exercise, saunas and extremes of heat for 24-48 hours, or as advised by your clinician.

• Avoid rubbing or massaging the area unless your practitioner specifically advises it.

WILL IT HURT?

​​

Most people describe brief stinging or pressure at each injection point. Treatment is generally well tolerated. Topical anaesthetic or cooling may be used if needed. Mild tenderness can continue for a day or two as the area settles.

RISKS AND SIDE EFFECTS

All injectable treatments carry a degree of risk. Risks and expected side effects will be discussed with you at consultation before any treatment is agreed.

Common, temporary effects include:

• Redness

• Swelling or small lumps at injection points

• Bruising

• Tenderness

• Itching

These usually settle within a few days. Your practitioner will provide aftercare advice designed to minimise risk and support recovery.

WHO WOULD NOT BE SUITABLE FOR PROFHILO?

​

A full medical history and assessment of your expectations is necessary before any decision to treat. Profhilo is not suitable for everyone. Treatment may not be recommended if you:

• Want volume or contour change rather than an improvement in skin quality

• Have infection, inflammation or broken skin in or near the treatment area

• Are unwell in any way at the time of treatment

• Are pregnant or breastfeeding

• Have a known allergy to hyaluronic acid products or a contraindication identified at consultation

• Have a medical condition or take medicines that make treatment unsafe for you

Your clinician will advise whether Profhilo, dermal filler, polynucleotides, microneedling or another approach is the better pathway for your concern.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

​

Most people start with two sessions about four weeks apart. Maintenance is then planned individually, often at four or six months. Body treatments follow a plan set at consultation. The number of sessions depends on the area treated and your individual response.
